Carson City


Taco sale to benefit dance group


There will be an Indian Taco sale from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at 2900 S. Curry St. to support the Great Basin Dance Group.


Tacos are $5, bread is $2, and soda is 50 cents. Advance orders will be taken, or the public can come in and order personally. There is no delivery. For information or to place an order, call 530-4239.




New member sought for Carson City Library board


The Carson City Library Board of Trustees has an opening for a member.


The board oversees the library's policy and budget. Trustees devote up to eight hours a month.


The term ends June 2009. Applications will be accepted until July 31.


Final appointments for all of the boards are made by the Carson City Board of Supervisors.

Members sought for Convention and Visitors Bureau


The Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau, which oversees tourism matters, has three openings.


One opening is for a resident and two others are for professionals. Another person is sought with a background in general business and the third should have hotel- or motel- industry experience.


The group meets the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m., and members are expected to spend six to eight hours a month on bureau duties.


Final appointments for all of the boards are made by the Carson City Board of Supervisors.

Douglas County


'Pops in the Park' picnic stars Sierra Philharmonic


The Sierra Philharmonic League's 23rd annual Pops in the Park is Tuesday at the Orchard House in Genoa.


Participants can bring a picnic lunch or purchase one from the Genoa Country Store. The Philharmonic League will be selling wine, beer, water and souvenirs. There will be a silent auction and a petting zoo. To volunteer, call 588-7686 or 267-2403.




Local art show at Carson Valley Inn


There will be an art show by members of the Carson Valley Art Association and the Nevada Art Association Monday and Tuesday at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. All paintings are available for sale. Call 783-9626.

Virginia City to hold parade, festivities for Independence Day


Virginia City will be having an Independence Day Celebration beginning at noon Tuesday with a patriotic parade. There will be entertainment for the young and old as well as live band performances and fireworks. Call 847-0311 or 847-4386.

Junior Ranchers to learn mysteries about 'Curious Corn'


Children ages 3 to 7 can learn that corn is used for more than food as they explore the many mysteries of America's largest grown crop during a free Junior Rancher program at 10 a.m. today at the Western Heritage Interpretive Center at Reno's Bartley Ranch Regional Park. Call 828-6612.
