The Carson National 9-10 all-stars rolled to a resounding 25-5 win over North Valleys on Saturday in its opener at the District I Little League Tournament at the Washoe Fields.
Gehrig Tucker pitched three shutout innings, recording seven of his nine outs by strikeout as the Nationals built a 25-0 lead. T.J. Thompsen retired both batters he faced to finish up.
All 11 hitters for the Nationals recorded at least one hit, led by Cody Schmidlin, who was 5-for-5 with a three-run home run, a double, four runs and five RBI. Tucker was 3-for-5 with four runs, Thompson was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs, Jay Milligan was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and four runs, Jacob Roll was 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs, Nate Cotroneo was 2-for-5 with a double, Tristian Bakkedahl was 1-for-3 with three RBI, Michael Patrick was 1-for-2 with an RBI, Nolan Shine was 1-for-3 with two RBI, Chance Banta was 2-for-2 and Kyle Steele was 1-for-1 with a walk.
Luke Maher was unable to play with a broken finger, but the Nationals hope to have him back some time during the tournament.
In other action, the Carson American 9-10s lost 11-1 to Washoe, the Carson American 11s lost 5-0 to South Tahoe and the Carson National 11s lost 10-0 to Reno Contintental.
In today's action, the Carson American 9-10s will play Truckee at 1 p.m., the Carson National 9-10s will play Sparks National at 3:30 p.m. and the Carson American 11s will play Carson Valley at 6 p.m.
