Carson American 9-10s 2-1 in district tournament

Despite a tough loss against district power Washoe, the Carson American 9-10-year-olds appear to be on their way to the quarterfinals of the Little League All-Star Tournament at the Washoe complex in South Reno.

Carson American is 2-1 after losing to Washoe 18-3. Carson American will conclude pool play at 5:30 p.m. today against another tough opponent, Reno American West.

The Americans opened with a 7-3 win against Sparks National. Down 3-0, the Americans scored six runs after there were two outs behind singles by Connor Pradere and Shane Andrews. Chea Zevnick went on to hit a three-run double and Zach Simms added a two-run double.

P.J. White, Zevnick, Jonathan Collins and Simms combined to hold Sparks to three runs on three hits while striking out nine.

In a 10-3 win over Reno National, Bryce Moyle was able to scatter nine hits over five innings and settled down after allowing two runs in the first. He walked none. Simms pitched a scorless sixth.

Down 3-2, the Americans scored eight runs in the sixth to take a 10-3 lead. Carson scored eight runs on eight hits and three walks in the inning. Simmons led off with a double and Damon Kitson, Pradere, Andrews, White and Collins all added singles.

Carson played on even terms with Washoe as the game was tied 3-3 after 3 1/2 innings before Washoe scored the game's final 15 runs. Pradere held Washoe in check for the first three innings. Pradere received defensive help when Kitson made an outstanding diving catch in centerfielder in the third.

Moyle and Pradere each had a hit and Harry Meyer, Asa Carter, Simms and Moyle all reached base.

In other action, The Carson National 10-11 All-Stars fell just short of their first win, losing to North Valleys 5-2 on Monday.

Caden Lehman and Dustin Dutcher each had a hit and an RBI to account for the Nationals' runs. K.C. Meyer, Eugene Mills and Hunter Wilfert all added a hit.

Wilfert pitched four innings and Noah Teixeira pitched two innings to combine for a solid effort on the mound.

The Nationals also lost to Washoe 13-1 on Tuesday. Carson American picked up its first win of the tournament, beating South Tahoe 6-3 on Sunday and was 1-1 heading into Tuesday's game against Carson Valley.
