The Carson Valley Hotshots 14 and under softball team began its 2008 season by winning the Capital City Qualifier in Carson City last weekend.

On Saturday the Hotshots defeated the Fallon Force 9-0 and then went on to beat the Desert Valley Dynomites 8-0.

On Sunday, they opened with a win over the Bad Girls 8-0 to advance to the championship game against the Desert Valley Dynomites. The Hotshots fell behind 4-0 in the second inning, but came back in the fourth with five runs to take a 5-4 lead. In the sixth, they scored four more runs and went on to win 9-6.

The Hot Shots first place finish qualified them for the National Softball Association Western World Series to be held July 12-19 in Reno, Carson City and Gardnerville. The Hot Shots will playing again on Saturday and Sunday in the Memorial Day Weekend Tournament in Fernley.

Carson Valley's roster includes Amanda Caras, Kelly Sonnemann, Kalee Duryee, Chelsea Fent, Katie Kluever, Shaelby Bell, Illiana Brown, Aaliyah Paxson, Jena Geyer, Marlena Martin, Devin Scherbak and Nicole Rios. The team is coached by Tom Keck, Lance Caras, Wes Duryee and Hank Paxson.
