Nevada Magazine holds half-off sale on calendars


The Nevada Magazine is holding a 50 percent off sale on the 2006 Nevada Historical Calendars through Friday.

Carson Tahoe Laboratory Services relocates


Carson Tahoe Laboratory Services, formerly located at the Ross Building in the Sierra Professional Complex, has moved to Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Center, formerly Carson-Tahoe Hospital, at 775 Fleischmann way in Carson City. Call 885-4221.




Ski and snowboard season over


The Carson City Recreation Junior Ski/Snowboard Program has completed this season and would like to remind participants that the Recreation Office in the Community Center still has a large collection of lost-and-found items from this year's season. Items will be held until March 31, and then will be donated to charity.

IRS and Fish offer tax assistance


Five Saturdays remain for free tax assistance. IRS certified volunteers will be available on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. through April 8 to help taxpayers prepare their tax returns. Some IRS forms are available on-site.


Interested individuals should bring the tax package they received in the mail, drivers license or photo ID, W-2's, 1099's, a copy of last year's return, and any other relevant tax information. To schedule an appointment call 883-5744.




Nevada rebate checks can be used on 1040 EZ forms


The IRS has adjusted its tax return procedures to allow the 2005 Nevada Rebate Checks to be reported on an IRS "short form" tax return, such as 1040 EZ or 1040A. Before taxpayers had to revert to the longer and harder to decipher 1040 form.

Boomtown hosting concealed weapon courses


Boomtown Hotel and Casino in Reno will be this year's location for the new Nevada Concealed Weapon certification courses. These courses offer valuable safety tips and certifications. This month's classes will be March 25 and 26. Courses include a two-night Boomtown stay, two days of four-hour instruction and license application paperwork for $199 plus tax. Courses are $149. You must be 21 years or older to take this class.

Nevada Historical Society asks for public participation


In celebration of Women's History Month, the museum store of the Nevada Historical Society is inviting the public to participate in a scrapbook project recognizing that every day women make history in Nevada. Submissions are welcomed at the museum store throughout the month of March.


The Historical Society seeks contributions from individuals whom Nevada women have inspired, mentored or taught. Those submitting works are encouraged to write a short page or paragraph about their woman to add to the scrapbook. Call 688-1190 ext. 225.

Nevada Legacy seeks volunteers


Nevada Legacy Corps provides respite services for caregivers. They offer a monthly stipend to cover expenses and scholarships after requirements are met. Recognition is also given for volunteer service, skills, knowledge and certification about aspects of care giving and respite care. An in-depth initial and monthly training are required and provided.


Those interested must be at least 16 years of age, pass a background check and be able to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Call 841-6033.
