After its own pumping up, Silver State Fitness will reopen 6 a.m. Monday.

Cindy McEwan, who owns the business with her husband, Craig, said the 1945 Idaho St. gym will open after repairing extensive damage caused by a Jan. 7 windstorm.

"The structure of the building had to be re-engineered and rebuilt," she said. "It's like a new building."

The 6,500-square-foot gym, which is across from Lowe's, will open for members, but workers will install a new roof and paint the exterior siding and interior walls in the next three weeks.

McEwan said her husband had left the gym only about 30 minutes prior to the windstorm, which stripped off a two-month-old roof. It also tore off the wall of their recently completed aerobic room, which had only been open for a few months. They got a call from the sheriff's office about the destruction at about 7:30 p.m.

"A tornado hit us. It was amazing. And it was just our building. The wind hit at 98 mph and just kind of blew it up. But it didn't touch our equipment and didn't break mirrors."

At least not any mirrors in the weights room. The gym's south wall was blown outward, which damaged mirrors in the aerobics studio.

The McEwans plan a reopening celebration for the first or second week of April. A smoothie and coffee bar inside the gym will open, once permits are secured.

Superior Physical Therapy will continue to operate inside the gym. Aerobic classes will begin in early April.

The gym's hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The owner of the building could not be reached for comment.
