Carson JV baseball wins two

The Carson High junior varsity baseball team went 2-0 in the North Valleys Tournament on Saturday, beating North Valleys 7-6 and McQueen 10-8.

Matt Rutledge picked up the save in the win over North Valleys and delivered the game-winning hit in the victory against McQueen. Against North Valleys, Paul Cagle struck out six over five innings to pick up the win.

Rutledge stopped a North Valleys rally and pitched two scoreless innings for the save. Stephen Sawyers went 2-for-2 with a double and Rutledge also doubled.

With the score tied 8-8 in the top of the seventh inning, after Kevin Hollaway picked up a hit, Rutledge followed with a two-run double to give Carson a 10-8 lead. Kyle Stone was the winning pitcher, going three innings and hold McQueen scoreless over the last two innings.

Tyler Smith struck out five over the first four innings. Rutledge had three hits and Jeff Butler also had three hits and a double.

The Carson varsity preseason tournament scheduled for Ron McNutt Field on Saturday again wasn't held due to the weather. The tournament is set to resume on Monday with a yet to be determined schedule.
