Alfred Leslie Whear, 91, a Gardnerville resident, died March 10, 2006, at home.

Mr. Whear was born July 19, 1914, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

He and his wife raised their children in a mountainside tent near the Eastern Sierra foothills.

Among his survivors are his wife of nearly 70 years, Grace Paxton Whear; sons and daughter-in-laws Tom and Dede Whear and Bob and Twila Whear; daughters and sons-in-law Pam and John Murphey, Penny and Kerry Kellogg and Kathy and Dan Martin; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Barton Hospice of the Lake/Valley, 1615 Highway 395 No. C, Minden, NV 89423.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
