A Sparks man remained in custody Friday for possessing a stolen vehicle and running from a state trooper.

Randy Allen Beach, 28, is being held in the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony possession of a stolen vehicle, failing to obey a peace officer, eluding a peace officer, possession of counterfeit bills, parole violation and driving on a suspended license.

According to Trooper Chuck Allen, about 9:30 p.m. Monday a trooper from the Carson City district noticed a black BMW sedan with expired plates in the Winner's Corner parking lot at Fifth Street and Saliman Road.

When the plates came back stolen, the trooper moved his car to block the vehicle's exit from the lot and Beach allegedly ran.

He was apprehended a short distance away after being unable to climb a fence, Allen said.

At the time of his arrest, Beach was found to be on probation for a previous charge of possession of a stolen vehicle.

While being booked into the jail, an officer discovered three counterfeit $20 bills in Beach's possession, Allen said. The money was surrendered to the Secret Service.

The vehicle was stolen from Reno sometime in the beginning of March, Allen said.

Beach is being held without bail.
