Western Nevada Community College will be offering students two chances to take Composition 1 (English 101) online this summer. Classes begin June 12. The two classes are conducted entirely online with no in-class appearances. Cost is $173.25.

Applications for three grant programs from the Nevada Arts Council are now available.


The deadline for the Better Learning through the Arts grant is May 16.

Downtown Design Review Committee meets today


The Downtown Design Review Committee will meet at 10:15 a.m. today in the Conference Room at the Planning and Community Development Department, 2621 Northgate Lane.


On the agenda is potential approval of a sign, 14.8 square feet in size, outside a business at 318 N. Carson St.




RSVP Spring Fun Fair's 'Salute to Moms'


The 21st annual RSVP Spring Fun Fair will be holding a "Salute to Moms" in honor of Mother's Day Sunday, when all moms can ride the carnival rides for free all day. There will be a coupon available worth $5 off the all-day ride pass at www.FunNbiz.com, which can be printed out and brought to the ticket booth. Retirement board to hold education session, meeting

Capital City Arts Initiative to 'Get the Word Out'

Jazz band presents 'Merry May Jazz' at Comma


The Mile High Jazz Band presents "Jazz in the Merry Month of May," a program of big-band jazz in the Basie/Ellington tradition from 8-10 p.m. tonight at Comma Coffee, 312 S. The Carson Valley Desert Brushes will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Lane Firehouse, 1450 Stephanie Way in Minden.

Historic society to offer tours of historic Reno


The Historic Reno Preservation Society will celebrate the month of May with eight walking tours of historic Reno.


Members of the Historic Reno Preservation Society can participate for free, and nonmembers participate for $10 per person.
