Dayton and Smith Valley teams win crowns

The Dayton High boys and Smith Valley boys and girls track teams won their respective zone track meets on Saturday in Yerington.

Dayton's and Smith Valley's boys ran away with the titles. Dayton won the Northern 3A crown with 175 points, easily outdistancing second place Spring Creek (125).

Smith Valley dominated the Northern 1A boys meet with 201 points while Carlin was second with 78. Smith Valley's girls edged Wells for the title 125-105. The top five finishers in the 3A meet and the top four finishers in the 1A meet qualify for next weeks NIAA State Championships.

Local athletes who qualified for the state 3A meet were:

100 meters - Maria Weeks, Dayton, first, 13.45 seconds; Kiara Ross, Yerington, fourth, 13.57. 1,600 - Swayze Bauer, Yerington, fifth, 6.06.88. 100 hurdles - Hannah Hansen, fourth, 17.82. 4x100 - Dayton (Weeks, Portia Horn, Jerrika Gutierrez, Shaelynn Morris), first, 52.81; Fernley (Jasmine Hamilton, Anna Maguin, Ashley Duback, Becky Murphy), fourth, 55.37; Yerington (Bauer, Katie Malarchek, Hansen, Holly Moyle), fifth, 56.81.

4x200 - Dayton (Weeks, Chelsey Farnworth, Gutierrez, Melissa Karges), second, 1:51.74; High jump - Morris, fourth. Pole vault - Kayla Lommori, Yerington, third; Kiara Ross, Yerington, fifth. Long jump - Murphy, first, 16 feet, 5 inches; Ross, second, 16-4.

Shot put - Rebecca Monzella, Dayton, first, 33-9; Lommori, second, 33-0; Ashley Guerts, Fernley, fourth, 31-10. Discus - Lommori, first, 111-5; Monzello, second, 105-7.

Long jump - Feemster, first, 20-10 1/2; Troy Gray, Dayton, third; Wagoner, fourtrh; Ainsworth, fifth. Triple jump - Ainsworth, first, 40-11 1/2; Wagoner, second, 40-4; Gonzalez, fifth. Shot put - Joe Carter, Fernley, first, 50-4. Discus - Paul Cox, Dayton, first, 148-3; Brandon Seymour, Dayton, third; Carter, fourth.

For Smith Valley's boys, Easton Harris won three events (200 and 110 and 300 hurdles). Casey Gleason also won the 400 and along with Alex Michelson, Aaron Marshek and Yunior Luna, helped Smith Valley win the 4x800. Also for Smith Valley, Tim Nelson won the pole vault, Leo Yerena won the shot put and David Bozskik won the discus.

For Smith Valley's girls, Kylee Gleason won the 400, 200 and the pole vault with an outstanding mark of 11-6. Arianne Smith also won the 100 and 300 hurdles for Smith Valley.
