A hard-to-find and highly sought-after item will be auctioned off to benefit the Carson Tahoe Regional Cancer Center - Dayton water rights.

John Allen, president of the Carson City Rotary Club, is donating 2 acre feet of Dayton water rights valued at between $30,000 and $35,000 for an auction at the Armed Forces Day Victory Party on Saturday.

"There's been plenty of interest already in the water rights," said Steve Reynolds, spokesperson for the event.

"Cancer strikes every family," Allen said in a press release. "We are excited to help build a world-class cancer treatment facility here in Carson City, so patients and their families in Northern Nevada don't have to travel out-of-state for these life-saving services."

The Rotary Club has committed to raise $200,000 over the next three years for the cancer center.

The auction will take place at a dinner dance-party beginning at 6 p.m. at the Carson Airport's Sterling Air hangar on Airport Road.

The Mile High Jazz Band will perform at the event, which also includes a hosted bar and USO-style comedy.

In addition, a vintage World War II B-25 bomber and other military vehicles will be on display.

Other big-ticket items offered at auction will be a 2002 Ford Explorer, a week at a Fallen Leaf Lake cabin, a 2006 Yamaha Grizzly 660 quad and more.

A raffle will be held as well, with the grand prize being a five-star trip to Hawaii, Reynolds said.

Proceeds will benefit local scholarships as well as the cancer center.

"We hope the community will make plans to enjoy a great evening with us," Allen said. "Our fun will help create one of the most-needed medical facilities in Northern Nevada."
