Nevada designated hitter Terry Walsh and Hawai'i pitcher Justin Costi were named the Western Athletic Conference's Hitter and Pitcher of the Week.
Walsh, a sophomore, hit .500 (6-for-12) in a three-game sweep of New Mexico State last week. On Friday, Walsh went 3-for-5 with a career-best six RBI, three of those coming on a bases-loaded double. He finished with eight RBI for the week and two runs scored.
The hit barrage enabled Walsh to raise his average to .286. He finished the regular season with six homers and 40 RBI, third and second-best marks on the team.
A solid contact hitter, Walsh only struck out once every six times to the plate.
Costi, a senior from Elk Grove, Calif., blanked San Jose State on a complete-game six hitter last week. He fanned four and walked one in his route-going effort. He is currently 8-1 with a 3.45 earned run average.
It's the third time that Costi has been honored by the WAC
