Washoe Valley's Steve Sear qualified for the U.S. Open at Monday's qualifier at Genoa Lakes Golf Resort.

Sear shot a 4-under-par 68 to finish second in the qualifier. He will join two University of Nevada golfers in the second stage of U.S. Open qualifying

Casey Watabu won the qualifier with a 66 and John Cassidy, also from Nevada, was third with a 69. The top four finishers qualified for the U.S. Open.

Joining those three will be Matthew Daniel, who shot a 70, and won the fourth spot in the playoff.

Those four will play at the sectional qualifier for the right to be in next month's U.S. Open.

Watabu and Cassidy will also play with the Nevada men's golf team at the NCAA Championships May 31-June 3. Nevada qualified for the NCAA tournament at last week's regionals.
