The University of Nevada baseball team had three players recognized on the all-Western Athletic Conference baseball team as selected by the league's coaches on Wednesday.

Right fielder Shawn Scobee was named to the first team while center fielder Durrell Williams and Terry Walsh were named to the second team. Walsh was named to the team as a designated hitter. Despite having an outstanding season, sophomore Matt Bowman of Dayton was shut out of any honors.

Fresno State shortstop Christian Vitters was named the Player of the Year, Hawai'i's Steven Wright earned Pitcher of the Year honors, and the Freshman of the Year award went to Louisiana Tech outfielder Jericho Jones. Hawai'i coach Mike Trapasso was selected as Coach of the Year.

Scobee hit .363 with 20 home runs and 48 RBI overall on the season. Williams hit .244 with a homer and eight RBI overall for the year while Walsh's overall season stats were six homers, 40 RBI and a .286 average.

Bowman was a victim of several circumstances that prevented him from being recognized. Under the criteria, Bowman could only be considered as a third baseman and only conference stats were used in selecting the team. It was also a particularly strong year for third basemen.

Fresno State third baseman Beau Mills was considered a candidate for player of the year honors. If he had received the award, that would have likely opened up a spot for Bowman to be placed on the second team. But Vitters was player of the year and Mills was the first team third baseman.

David Flores of Sacramento State was chosen as the second team third baseman ahead of Bowman. Bowman had better overall stats, hitting .369 with eight homers and 38 RBI while Flores hit .340 with three homers and 28 RBI.

But in conference, Bowman hit .344 with five homers and 20 RBI while Flores hit all three of his homers in conference while carrying a .395 average and driving in 19 runs.
