While he had to settle for a second team selection, at least this time Dayton's Matt Bowman wasn't completely shut out.

Bowman was named to the all-Western Athletic Conference second team as an outfielder as selected by the WAC coaches on Wednesday. Two Nevada players were named to the first team in pitcher Kyle Howe and third baseman Jason Rodriguez.

Fresno State' Steve Susdorf, who was also picked as the WAC's Player of the Year, Hawaii's Brandon Haislet, New Mexico State's Joseph Scaperotta and Sacramento State's Tim Wheeler were all named to the first team as outfielders.

Nevada teammates who joined Bowman on the second team were fellow outfielder Mike Hale, first baseman Shaun Kort and relief pitcher Mario Rivera.

After having a banner season two years ago, Bowman was completely shut out from the all-WAC team. But he made the all-WAC team this year after hitting .359 with four home runs and 35 RBI overall on the season.

Rodriguez hit .391 with eight homers and 56 RBI. Howe is 8-2 with a 3.55 earned run average this season.

Rivera is 2-1 with two saves and a 3.82 E.R.A. Kort is hitting .337 with six homers and 57 RBI and Hale is hitting .313 with seven homers and 29 RBI.
