Local gymnasts Jessica Brazeau, Kelsey Chicvara, Annika Crowe and Maddi Saarem all won all-around state championships to lead the Deltchev gymnastics team to the overall title at the recent State Championships in Las Vegas.
The four girls were part of a contingent of 10 girls from Carson, Gardnerville and Dayton, who competed for Deltchev. Along with winning the all-around titles, Brazeau and Chicvara won titles in uneven bars, Crowe was first in the vault and bars and Saarem was first in the vault and balance beam.
The other local girls who competed and how they finished were: Arel Getty, 11th on beam and floor exercise, 12th in the all-around; Louisa Lopez, second on bars and floor, seventh in the all-around; Kalie Parmenter, fourth in floor, 10th in the all-around; Mikayla Story, fifth in floor, 10th in the all-around; Natalie Trejo, first in floor, 10th in the all-around.
Scurry, Sierra in California Final Four
Galena High graduate Rod Scurry will be competing this weekend with Sierra Community College in the California Community College State Championship.
Scurry, who has signed with Nevada, is a relief pitcher for Sierra (35-14), which advanced to the Final Four by beating defending state champion Santa Rosa twice in the Super Regional finals. Scurry, who was also drafted by the Colorado Rockies last year, helped keep Sierra alive when he pitched six innings in Sierra's 7-4 win over West Valley in an elimination game in the Super Regional.
Sierra will open play in the double elimination format at noon Saturday against Long Beach City at John Euless Ballpark in Fresno. Cypress and Sacramento City will play in the other game.
Succuro fires ace at SilverOak Golf
Barbara Succuro recently shot a hole-in-one at Silver Oak Golf Club. She used a 9-wood from the red tee at the 100-yard second hole. Debi Penrod, Bob Richard and Jim Sewell witnessed the feat.
Genoa Lakes hosts Incline Teesters
The Genoa Lakes Ladies Golf Club hosted the Incline Village Teesters in the traditional home and home tournament recently held at Genoa Lakes Golf Course. The tournament was a two-best ball event. Results were:
First - Gail Teig, Sherry Valenta, Jeanne Whited assisted by blind draw 164; second - Sandy Cable, Gerri Francis, Judy McLennan, Shirley Navone 170; third - Diane Mayring, Margi Duerling, Barbara List, Barbara Ferguson 171; fourth - Geri Wilk, Deborah Patchett, Sue Price, Terry Anderson 172. Closest to the pin were Martha Barneson and Adele Juskalian.
