Abby Niehoff won the 15-18 girls 200-meter butterfly to help lead another strong effort by the Carson Tigersharks at the Intermountain Classic long course meet on Saturday at the Carson Aquatic Facility.
Niehoff finished in 2 minutes, 33.14 seconds to win the event. She also took third in the 100 freestyle in 1:04.21. In the same race with Niehoff, Julie Asire was seventh in the 100 free in 1:06.07.
Other top efforts for Carson included Paul Chang, who took second in the 13-14 boys 200 breaststroke in 3:06.46 and fourth in the 100 free in 1:05.34. Kevin Dyer also had strong finishes in three events, taking second in the 15-18 boys 100 backstroke in 1:08.92, third in the 100 free in 59.38 and fourth in the 200 fly in 2:29.70
Matt Grunert finished right behind Dyer in fifth in the 100 free in 59.66 and was seventh in the 100 back in 1:11.22. In addition, Caroline Suh was eighth in the 100 back in 1:19.04.
Tigershark coach Gaby Phalan also praised the races of Ryan Hogan in the 15-18 boys 100 free and Albert Reed in the 133-14 boys 100 free.
For the younger swimmers, Jessica Fahrenbruch was seventh in the 11-12 girls 100 free in 1:11.11 and seventh in the 100 breaststroke in 1:39.87. Tallon Rauch had a strong day, taking fifth in the 8 and under 50 fly in 55.63, sixth in the 50 breaststroke in 1:03.14 and fourth in the 100 free in 1:25.40. Connor Novak was also seventh in the boys 8 and under 50 breaststroke.
Phalan said that Fahrenbruch, Chloe Hearn in 11-12 girls and Tim Grunert in 11-12 boys were all able to lower their times in all their events.
"There were some good times all together," Phalan said.
"I'm very happy. I think the kids are doing really well."
The meet continues through Memorial Day.
