The 15th annual Kids' Fishing Derby will be held on June 10, at Sawmill Pond at South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Any youngsters up to the age of 14 are eligible to participate in that derby and there is no registration fee.
The derby will run from 8 a.m. until about noon.
No lures are allowed and there is a limit of five trout per youngster.
Raley's and the Optimist Club of South Lake Tahoe are the primary sponsors for this event.
Youngsters wishing to fish in the derby must enter where the Raley's banner is located at the pond.
When they do, they will receive their loaner poles (if needed), free fishing packet (bait, hooks and sinkers) and one raffle ticket.
During the course of the morning, there will be drawings for a number of raffle prizes. The youngsters must be present to win.
There will also be free soda pop and hot dogs for everyone attending.
Sawmill Pond will be planted with rainbow trout prior to the derby and it will be closed to fishing, all day the preceding day (June 9).
To reach Sawmill Pond, take U.S. 50 to South Lake Tahoe to the "Y." At the "Y," U.S. 50 goes left to Placerville and S.R. 89 goes right to Camp Richardson. Go straight ahead on South Lake Tahoe Blvd. Drive past the car dealerships to the four-way stop sign. Continue straight ahead for 1.3 miles to the junction of Sawmill Road and South Lake Tahoe Blvd.
Note: The organizers have put out a request for additional volunteers needed to help with the derby. They are needed for serving soda pop, cooking hot dogs, handing out loaner poles and helping the youngsters while fishing (baiting hooks, untangling snarls, netting fish, etc.).
