A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper and a dump truck driver were uninjured in a Tuesday morning collision in Mound House that backed up rush-hour traffic for about an hour.

Trooper Michael Primeaux was westbound on Highway 50 East about 7:20 a.m. when he attempted to make a U-turn and crossed into the path of an eastbound dump truck near Affonso Drive in front of the Mound House General Store.

The other driver, James Groth, 46, of Carson City, was not injured.

Trooper Chuck Allen said numerous witnesses stopped to provide written statements. Traffic near the scene was congested for about 45 minutes.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Department is investigating the accident. Allen said once the investigation is complete, the report will be submitted to the Lyon County District Attorney's Office for review.

Primeaux, 55, is an 11-year-veteran of the department.
