BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): It's raining like heck, right now (Wednesday). Two guys fished at Upper Blue, yesterday. They caught some fish but nothing big.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Doug Busey of Douglas County reported the resort might be open on weekends in November. Call ahead at (209) 258-8888.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF:

East Carson River: The water is low and clear, in great condition. Not very many fishermen.

West Carson River: Low and clear. Not very many fishermen.

CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: The Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260): Fishing continues to be good, with a dozen derby entries this week in the 3+ pound range. Trout Teasers, Power Bait, and nightcrawlers are performing well. Salmon eggs continue to work best on the Creek. Purple, Black or Olive Woolly Buggers still strong in the early morning and late afternoon on the lake.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: About a half-dozen boats on Saturday but only a very few shore fishermen.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): Trollers fishing the deeper waters between the Narrows and the north end of the lake are catching nice large rainbows, some weighing up to 4 pounds.

Bank fishing with nightcrawlers has been very good at the dam and at Turkey Point. Float your worms.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that a shore fisherman caught two smaller fish and a 8.5 pound rainbow, yesterday. He was fishing with worms on the bottom on the east side of the reservoir.

JUNE LAKE LOOP, CALIF: Steven Osterman reported: Silver and Gull Lakes have both been productive. Try Matukas, black or purple Woolly Buggers and Hale-Bopp Leeches.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Andy at the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks at 358-6113: I just got back from that bass fishing tournament in Alabama, where I just finished out of the money by a few ounces. I heard that a fly fisherman at the North Nets did very well last week.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555 reported: Fishing is pretty good, especially for the boats. George (Pyramid Lake Charters) had a 6-pounder and a 5-pounder yesterday (Sunday). Today, he had a 7.5 pounder. They are trolling with various lures like Apex or Flatfish at a number of different locations. The shore fishermen and the fly fishermen are starting to do pretty good.

RED LAKE, CALIF: Doug Busey reported that he caught and released 32 brookies (11-13 inches) by the outlet. He was using 1/2 a nightcrawler with no weight and a pinched-back barb.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Dave Jacobs/Hank Mautz (Professional Guide Service) (800-355-3113):

Trout and Steelhead: Fishing near Anderson Balls Ferry downstream through Los Molinos has been good for most anglers this past week. More and more Steelhead are showing from Battle Creek downstream to Los Molinos. Look for best bite early in the mornings, side-drifting small Glo Bugs in pink or flame color combos. Some light egg patterns have also been doing well. Trout have been averaging 1-3 pounds with the occasional big Steelhead up to 8 pounds.

King Salmon: Salmon fishing for fall run Kings has been fair. Some days were much better than others especially near the mouth of Battle Creek. This is the time of year where anglers can target the newer and fresher late fall run Kings. These are traditionally much larger fish tipping the scales some days over 50 pounds! Salmon have been averaging 18-24 pounds with fewer older fall fish being caught.

Best bets have been sardine wrapped K-15 or K-16 Kwikfish lures in silver or gold color combos. Pink and pearl color combos are also a good bet this time of year. Roe tipped with a flame colored Quickie puffball has produced a few fish in the barge hole area. Back- bouncing fresh sardine wrapped Kwikfish has been best bet for fishermen downstream.

Big fish of the week was a 41 pound King, also 32 and 31 pound kings while back bouncing sardine wrapped K-16 Kwikfish.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): Fishing has been poor to excellent for mackinaw up to 9 pounds. On a poor day, we are catching 2-3, on a good day, we are catching 8-12. T

We have been trolling at 180-380 feet (the fish are holding at either 160 feet or at 320 feet) with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. I've been fishing Cal-Neva Point, Dollar Point and Sugar Point.

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis: I've been trolling at Ski Run Shelf and Camp Richardson. We have been trolling at 180-280 feet with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. The jiggers are jigging in water 180-280 feet deep, with White Star jigs or Squid jigs at Ski Run Mound.

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore: Gene St. Denis: Toplining for rainbows has been slow to good. The rainbows are starting to show up.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF: Steven Osterman reported: East Walker River: The flow in the river is currently 26 CFS. The recent drop in water flow has created some tough fishing conditions. Soft hackle Hares Ears, driftless Caddis, peeking Caddis and gray WD-40'S. Lots of pressure on the weekends.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: No ice yet and fishing is great. NDOW has been stocking every other day. The German browns are hitting on the north end, and they are hitting silver, minnow-looking lures. The Perch fishing is red-hot!
