Carson High's Chad Shroy and Dayton's Travis Wood were among 10 state finalists for the state's Wendy's Heisman High School award as the top male senior student-athlete in Nevada.
Shroy won the NIAA 4A State title in cross country on Saturday and also runs track. He has been accepted to the United States Naval Academy where he will also run.
Wood is also a multiple sports star and is currently the quarterback for the 10-0 Dayton football team, which will host an NIAA 3A State semifinal game at 1 p.m. Saturday against Virgin Valley.
The Wendy's Heisman High School Award recognizes student athletes for athletic performance, academics and citizenship. This year's state winners were Pahrump Valley's Jeff Holley and The Meadows' Cara Buchanan. Those two will be eligible to the Wendy's Heisman High School national award, which will presented in December.
