Williamson, Livermore receive third-term nods

Carson City voters allowed both incumbents seeking third terms with the Board of Supervisors to continue serving. Both races, however, were close.

Supervisor Pete Livermore beat out challenger Neil Weaver for Ward 1 by fewer than four percentage points: 51.89 percent - 8,668 votes - versus 48.11 percent - 8,036 votes. The men have locked horns three times for the seat, first in 1998 and again in 2002.

"It's never easy," Livermore said. "I really appreciate the citizens of Carson City. It's an honor to do work on their behalf."

Recent events, the fatal Halloween shooting in particular, brought about renewed focus on the city's gang and drug situations, Livermore said.

Gangs are now "the No. 1 issue" for the city, he said.

While Weaver congratulates Livermore for his third-term win, he reminded Livermore that "50 percent of your constituents - 48.11 percent to be exact - wanted a change. That says a lot."

Livermore sits on the Parks and Recreation Commission, Carson Water Subconservancy Board, Regional Water Subcommittee, Nevada League of Cities, state Public Lands Advisory Board, Carson Tahoe Regional Health Care Board, Northern Nevada Urgent Care Board, Sierra Surgery and Imaging Board and anti-methamphetamine coalition.

Weaver runs Weaver Aircraft and is the chairman of the city's Airport Authority.

"I'm delighted," said Supervisor Robin Williamson, who garnered 51.07 percent - 8,330 votes - versus challenger Tom Keeton's 48.93 percent - or 7,981 votes - a margin of slightly more than 2 percent.

"I appreciate all the support and I look forward to four more great years."

Williamson's most important goal during her third term in office is to "get started on downtown," she said.

Keeton congratulated Williamson and offered her his best wishes for success during her next term and said she ran a good campaign.

Williamson is chairwoman of the Redevelopment Authority. She also serves on the Carson Water Subconservancy District, Nevada Association of Counties, the Western Nevada Development District, Western Nevada HOME Consortium and is the federal lands liaison. She is president of the C Hill Flag Foundation, co-chairwoman of the Athletic Development Committee for Western Nevada Community College and serves on the WNCC Foundation.

Keeton serves on the Parks and Recreation Commission and has been active in Republican Party activities, including heading up the local Central Committee. He is a retired from the aerospace industry and spent much of his professional life in advertising and communications.
