11 pound Cutthroat at Pyramid Lake

BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): The Blues Lake Road is now closed for the winter. We're getting rained on, (Monday morning) and we had a little snow the other night. It's that time of the year. Both Monitor and Ebbett's Pass are closed right now, from the snowstorm.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Doug Busey of Douglas County reported the resort might be open on weekends in November. Call ahead at (209) 258-8888.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Andy at The Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113): It has slowed way down. A fly fisherman fished all day with a Snail pattern, and only had one hit.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): Fishing continues to be good from shore at the dam and at the back end of Turkey Point in the shallow water. Float your nightcrawler off the bottom for best results. Fish are generally 14-16 inches but some are quite a bit larger, up to 3 pounds. Trolling off the old boat ramp with nightcrawlers is also producing limits of nice rainbows.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that on Friday, Rene Mouttet of South Lake Tahoe caught a very nice 5.5 pound rainbow, while fishing from shore with rainbow-colored Power Bait. Then on Saturday, the reservoir had huge waves from the high wind.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Valerie at Crosby's Lodge at (775) 476-0400 reported: It's been an awesome season, so far. The top fish checked in last week were: An 11-pound, 1-ounce Cutt caught by Peter Thompson of Reno while fly fishing at "The Nets" on Nov. 6, an 8-pound, 5-ounce Cutt from shore and a 5 pounder. The weather has really been nasty with 50-60 mph winds and rain.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Andy at the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks at 358-6113: It is doing all right. The trollers are catching some, the fly guys are catching 4-5 at "The Nets." The jiggers are doing the best, that seems to be the ticket, right now. One jigger caught an 8 pounder. They are using spoons and jigs at Howitzer Bay over by Hell's Kitchen on the east side.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555 reported: It's been really windy with a little rain. Saturday was dead because of the wind. On Sunday, the fishermen caught a few fish before they got blown off. George (Pyramid Lake Charters) canceled all of this trips for the weekend and he canceled today's trips (Monday). We hope the weather clears out before our derby on Thanksgiving weekend.

SACRAMENTO RIVER: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448): Water flows are 5,600 CFS.

King Salmon: Fishing for Kings is fair. Kirk and Clients are still catching 2-5 fish a day, with this late Fall run of salmon around the 30 pound range and over.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Dave Jacobs/Hank Mautz (Professional Guide Service) (800-355-3113):

Trout and Steelhead: Fishing Balls Ferry downstream through Los Molinos has been good for most anglers this past week. More and more Steelhead are showing from Battle Creek downstream to Los Molinos.

Boat pressure really picked up this past week, slowing the trout bite from Anderson to Redding.Look for best bite early in the mornings.

Side drifting small Glo Bugs in pink or flame color combos. Some light egg patterns have been doing well. Trout have been averaging 1-3 pounds with the occasional Steelhead, up to 8 pounds.

King Salmon: Fishing for fall run Kings has been fair this past week with fewer and fewer fall run Kings being caught. Fishing around the Barge Hole has produced mostly dark fall fish with a few bright late fall Kings mixed in. Most salmon being caught downstream are the new late fall run Kings.

Most fish landed this week have been 30-35 pounds.

With the recent rain showers, best fishing has been from Anderson downstream to Colusa. Quiet water with very little boat traffic has been most productive.

Best bets have been sardine wrapped K-15 or K-16 Kwikfish lures in silver or gold color combos. Back- bouncing fresh sardine wrapped Kwikfish has been best bet for fishermen downstream.

Big fish of the week was a 38 pound late fall King caught by Tom McDonald from Reno on Nov. 11.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): It rained all night (Monday) but the weather is nice, right now. Fishing has been good to excellent dependent on the day. We have been trolling at 180-380 feet with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. I've been fishing at Cal-Neva Point, Dollar Point and Sugar Pine Point. We've been catching 3-9 fish per trip.

The biggest fish last week was 12.5 pounds and it was caught 340 feet deep on Sunday at Cal Neva Point by David Okaski of Roseville, Calif.

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis: I've been trolling at Ski Run Shelf and Camp Richardson. We have been trolling at 180-280 feet with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. The jiggers are jigging in water 160-240 feet deep, with White Star jigs or Squid jigs (tipped with a live minnow) at Ski Run Mound.

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore: Gene St. Denis: Toplining for rainbows has been slow to very good dependent on the day at Eagle Point, Zephyr Cove, Deadman's Point and Sand Harbor.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: There is some snow on the ground (Monday morning) but the temperature is going up to about 50 degrees. Beautiful but weird weather for this time of the year. No ice yet. There are a few fishermen and the fishing is red hot right now for trout and Perch.
