Gang awareness will be the focus of a meeting tonight aimed at parents of Hispanic youths attending Carson City schools.
The meeting will be 7-9 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St. All residents are welcome to attend.
This session will be conducted in Spanish; however, there will be English translation available.
Members of the Special Enforcement Team and Gang Unit of the Sheriff's Department, and leaders of various Latino organizations, will provide information about the names and types of gangs - and what signs to look for if their children are associating with these groups.
Parents also will be able to ask questions.
The presentation will be televised on local cable access television. Broadcast times will be announced later. Azteca-America and Univision will report on the event in Spanish.
For details, call Javier Ramirez, the city's citizen outreach coordinator at 887-2101, ext. 1209.
