James Darrell Davis, 65, of Smith, died Nov. 16, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Santa Ana, Calif., on Sept. 18, 1941, to James and Wanda (Thompson) Davis.
He married Susan White in Newport Beach, Calif., on Aug. 1, 1970.
Mr. Davis received a bachelor's degree in police science and administration in 1970 and a master's degree in criminal justice in 1976.
He worked for the Santa Ana Police Department in vice, narcotics and auto theft, and enjoyed working as head of the canine department as a lieutenant. After retirement, he went into real estate appraising, and spent the last five years living in Smith Valley during the winters and June Lake, Calif., in the summers.
Among his survivors are his wife, Sue; daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Ron Hodson of Dickerson, N.D.; son and daughter-in-law Troy and Kelly Davis of Murrieta, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
