A brush fire along State Route 339 south of Yerington that was threatening structures Tuesday afternoon was kept to 10 acres, despite winds gusting to 45 mph.
The fire was caused by an earlier controlled burn near the Peri and Sons processing plant. The fire spread across the river onto a nearby property owner's pasture, said Steve Tognoli, district chief for Mason Valley.
About 130 firefighters from eight agencies battled the 11:30 a.m. blaze that was contained by 3 p.m., he said.
"The fire is in a bunch of farming area right now, and we are just trying to keep it out of the haystacks," said Central Lyon County Fire Chief John Gillenwater.
"This is a really dirty fire because of the season."
Tognoli said Peri and Sons will likely pay the cost of the fire suppression.
The Mason Valley, Central Lyon, North Lyon and Smith Valley fire departments all responded as did crews from Douglas County's East Fork Fire Protection District, the Nevada Division of Forestry, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service.
No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
Another fire was burning on Campbell Lane at the opposite end of Yerington, but was contained at about 2 p.m. and burned less than an acre.
