A memorial service for Thomas Eugene 'Gene' Smith, 68, a 20-year Dayton resident, will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow the service at the church.

Mr. Smith died Nov. 29, 2006, in Carson City. He was born June 7, 1938, in Odessa, Texas, to William Thomas and Edna Mae Whitmire Smith.

He married Linda June Huffman on July 25, 1958, in Houston.

Before moving to Dayton, Mr. Smith lived in Carson City for 20 years. Prior to that he lived in Houston.

He attended the University of Houston.

He was a recently retired automotive engineer for Nevada Automotive Test Center in Lyon County.

He had served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as an airborne radio operator.

He belonged to the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Sports Car Club of America. He enjoyed fly-fishing, hunting and Corvette restoration.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Among his survivors are his wife of 48 years; daughters and sons-in-law Terrie and Craig Page and Sherri and Andy Alvis; sister Jo Anne Janowski; six grandchildren; two nephews; three nieces and two aunts.

Cremation will take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice in Mr. Smith's name.

Capitol City Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
