A visitation of the Holy Rosary for Thomas C. Rippee, 58, will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Walton's Sparks Funeral Home, 1745 Sullivan Lane, with a rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, 2900 N. McCarran Blvd. in Sparks.

Mr. Rippee died Sept. 30, 2006, at Washoe Medical Center in Reno.

He was born Oct. 1, 1947, in Boulder City, to Frank and Barbara Rippee.

He grew up in Weed Heights and graduated from Yerington High School. He attended Taft Junior College, Brigham Young University and Southern Utah State University, where he graduated in 1972. He played baseball and was an All-American in football.

He was a teacher of math, government, history, English and physical education, as well as a coach of basketball, football and baseball. He taught at a reservation in Sanders, Ariz.; at Mingus Union High School in Arizona; at Bishop Manogue High School in Reno; and at Carson Middle School for the past 18 years. He also coached at Carson High School.

He designed the logo which Bishop Manogue High School still uses. He enjoyed golfing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Among his survivors are his wife of 34 years, Sandy Rippee; son, Tyler Rippee; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Richard Miears; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Jean and Lonnie Gipson; brothers and sisters-in-law Pat and Niki Rippee and Mike and Bonnie Rippee; and several extended- family members.

Memorial donations may be made to the Thomas Rippee Memorial Trust Fund at any Wells Fargo branch.
