Contents of federal lands bill focus of meeting

Carson City is writing its federal lands bill and plans several meetings with residents and citizens panels to share information about the plan.

More than three dozen sites are being considered for inclusion in the bill, in which parcels around the city controlled by various levels of government will be proposed for different government management.

The first public information meeting will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the conference room at the Bureau of Land Management office, 4665 Morgan Mill Road.

Subsequent meetings are being scheduled.

The bill will be given to the Board of Supervisors in late November for approval. It will be given to federal representatives by December, after final editing.

Hepatitis and liver support group meets

The Sierra Nevada Hepatitis C and Liver Support Group will be meeting 6-8 p.m. Monday at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center's Aspen Auditorium. These meetings are held on the second Monday of every month. Those with Hepatitis C, call 883-5415. For those who have had liver transplants, call 883-3626.

'Autumn Jazz' at Comma Coffee on Tuesday

The Mile High Jazz Band will be performing "Autumn Jazz" 8-10 p.m. Tuesday at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St. Admission is $5 at the door, $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Association, and free for those aged 18 and under. Dance instruction will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. and costs $5. Natives and Newcomers to meet Thursday

The Natives and Newcomers club will be meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Carson Nugget's upstairs rooms. Guest speaker will be Janice Oberding, an expert on Carson City and Virginia City haunted houses. Reservations are due by Tuesday. For information call 885-9019 or 883-2733.

Toastmasters to hold a speech training program

The Capital Nevada Toastmasters will be holding a speech training program starting at noon Oct. 17 at B'Sghetti's Restaurant. This eight-week program will teach the fundamentals of public speaking, including written speeches, audiovisual aids, body language and listening. The cost for the program and materials is $75 and registration is due by Thursday. For information, call 882-0319.

California retired employees association to meet Wednesday

The California Retired Public Employees Association, Northern Nevada Chapter, will be holding their bi-monthly luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grandma Hattie's Restaurant, 2811 S. Carson St. Reservations are not needed. For information call 674-6449.

'Museum Exhibits for the 21st Century' presentation Wednesday
