Dewey Wendell Linze, 81, an 11-year Douglas County resident, died Sept. 28, 2006, at Evergreen in Gardnerville.

Mr. Linze was born Aug. 17, 1925, in St. Louis to Dewey and Lillian Linze.

He attended the University of Southern California, earning a bachelor's degree.

He worked at the Los Angeles Times as a copy boy and eventually became city editor, before leaving to open his own public relations firm. He had several books, magazines and stories published.

He enjoyed singing, meeting people and the English language.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning a Bronze Star.

Among his survivors are his wife of 29 years, Irma Linze; daughters and sons-in-law Sherese and James Settlemeyer and Renee and Ron Ramm; four granddaughters; one great-grandson and several extended-family members and friends.

The ashes will be scattered at a private family ceremony.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
