The Carson City Fire Department, Nevada Division of Forestry, Sierra Fire Protection District and Incline Village Fire Department spent Friday at Fritsch Elementary School teaching first- and second-graders about fire safety.

Engineer Mark Regan, with the Sierra Fire Protection District hoped to teach the children about four main topics using these stations:

What to do in an emergency

• When and how to call 911.

• Establish a safe meeting place.

• Learn "Stop, Drop and Roll."

When a firefighter comes

• Know what to expect from a firefighter if you need help.

• Don't fear the ambulance.

• Learn what a backboard, heart monitor and oxygen tank are used for.

Campfire Safety

• Don't play with matches.

• Make sure a campfire is out.

• Meet Smokey Bear and Sparky the firefighting dog.

Household dangers

• Know what do to when a smoke alarm goes off.

• Know how to check a door for heat.

• Know how to make your home fire.
