Contents of federal lands bill focus of meeting

Carson City is writing its federal lands bill and plans several meetings with residents panels to share information about the plan.

More than three dozen sites are being considered for inclusion in the bill, in which parcels around the city controlled by various levels of government will be proposed for new management.

The first public information meeting will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the conference room at the Bureau of Land Management office, 4665 Morgan Mill Road.

Subsequent meetings are Oct. 18 and 23.

The bill will be given to the Board of Supervisors in late November then to federal representatives by December, after final editing.

Redevelopment citizens group meets Wednesday

The Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Capitol Conference Room at City Hall, 201 N. Carson St.

Enter the building from the Musser Street side.

Items to be discussed include an upcoming report about parking downtown, plans for an urban code and a briefing about a tourism.

Traffic panels to meet Wednesday

Members of the Regional Transportation Commission and Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Items include responsibilities of the commission, contract awards for the travel demand modeling service and rights-of-way acquisitions, possible action regarding reconstruction of Clear Creek Road, and a progress report on improvements of Stewart Street.

Historic Resources Commission meets Thursday in Sierra Room

The Historic Resources Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room at the Community Center, 851 E. William St.

On the agenda is an update of the remodel of the First Presbyterian Church.

Pool to hold clinics to prepare future lifeguards

There will be a series of one-hour weekly clinics designed to improve swimming skills of those preparing for the Lifeguard Training entrance test. Participants must be 15 years of age by the end of this year. Clinics will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Carson City Aquatic Facility on Roop Street. Regular pool fees will apply. Caregivers Support Group to meet Thursday

There will be a Caregivers Support Group meeting at 2 p.m. Thursday at Douglas County Senior Services, at the Douglas County Senior Center. The public is invited to attend this meeting for the caregivers of loved ones with dementia. Call 783-9626.
