Khristy Stewart is hoping to give her clients the chance to make music.

Tonight, several of her employees will pitch in to help raise the necessary funds by making a little music of their own.

Stewart is the program manager for Going Places, a nonprofit organization that provides daily support for people with developmental disabilities. The organization currently serves 15 clients in Carson City and 30 clients in Reno.

One of the services they provide is taking clients to Reno to participate in a program called the Noteables, which allows them to sing, play instruments and put on concerts.

The program is designed to develop social skills, encourage work in a team environment and develop fine- and gross-motor skills.

"It gives them a lot of self-esteem to sing, play and get up in front of people and perform," Stewart said.

Going Places is holding a benefit concert, with the proceeds going to help get a chapter of the Noteables in Carson City.

"We have enough people to start our own chapter, but it's a matter of funding," Stewart said.

The benefit has a $5 cover charge and will feature a raffle, refreshments and a performance by local rock band Hallowed Ground. The event will run from 6-9 p.m. at the Reach Building, 2701 Northgate Lane, Suite 1-2, behind Wallace Theaters.

Jon Athon, drummer for Hallowed Ground, works at Going Places and said the band was happy to lend their voices to the benefit.

"We wanted to help give them a jump-start on raising funds," Athon said.

The band was formed seven years ago and plays a unique rock sound.

"It's rock, but it's different than anything else out there," Athon said. "It's very melodic."
