Jason Geddes, manager of government affairs for the Economic Development Authority (EDAWN), was recognized with the Golden Pinecone Award for environmental leadership at the recent Nevada EcoNet 2006 Golden Pinecone Awards.

Golden Pinecones are awarded to individuals and organizations for general environmental excellence and efforts to protect the region's environment.

Raleigh opens Dayton State Farm agency

Greg Raleigh has opened a State Farm agency at 5 Pine Cone Road in Dayton.

Prior to coming to State Farm, he was a financial analyst for High Yield Bonds with Citicorp Securities, Inc. He was also a financial analyst, and did mergers and acquisitions for Carteto, McCreary, Holmes & Co.

Nevadaworks awards grant to Virginia City organization, others

Nevadaworks recently awarded Community Chest, Inc. in Virginia City a grant to establish or maintain a staffed work force liaison office.

Also awarded grants were the Battle Mountain Family Resource Center, the Mineral County Economic Development Authority and the Lovelock/Pershing County Chamber of Commerce.

Nevadaworks' work force liaison grants fund resource centers that provide assistance for job seekers and employers.

Barker Coleman becomes Lennar

Reno-based home builder Barker Coleman has announced that it has changed its name to Lennar. The two sister companies will operate as a single homebuilding division of Lennar, a national builder.

The newly restructured division of Lennar is selling at 18 communities and expects to begin construction on another 15 over the next year.

Team Interest awarded in Carson

"Team Interest" at Elliot Ames Nevada Mortgage Services, consisting of Jonathan Wycoff and Sheila Reinhart, recently won awards.

Reinhart was voted Carson City's best loan officer in the 2006 Nevada Appeal Reader's Choice Awards, and Wycoff was recognized as a Silver Medallion Member of the National Association of Mortgage Brokers. Team Interest was formed in 2003.

AT&T appoints Lenox Nevada president

AT&T Nevada has announced the appointment of Howard Lenox as president of AT&T Nevada.

He will be responsible for all regulatory, legislative, governmental and external-affairs activities in Nevada. He will manage a team of AT&T professionals responsible for policy and philanthropic issues statewide. Lenox has 29 years in the telecommunications industry and has held a number of positions in legislative, public and external affairs departments.

A California native, Lenox holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and an MBA from San Diego State University.

Business.gov helps businesses meet federal requirements

A new federal government Web site - Business.gov - provides business owners with a one-stop resource to search federal government agencies that regulate or serve businesses for compliance information or resources.

The site makes it easier to find information on taxes, immigration laws, workplace safety, environmental requirements and other regulations that can present challenges for small and mid-size businesses.

Tahoe Reno Industrial Center expands

Kevin Fegert, owner of Ferrous Supply Co., has sold 1.63 acres for $4.25 per square foot (a total of $340,000) of the 3.5 acres he purchased at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, 10 miles east of Sparks.

Chad Bowen of Bowen Enterprises of Sparks purchased the land for his flatbed trucking company.

The PCBM Group, Inc. has purchased 5.24 acres at the center. The PCBM Group is comprised of four member/managers from Reno and Sparks: Scott Peterson, Brent Caywood, Michael Berry and Chris Martin.

The group has not decided what to do with the property, but is leaning toward office and warehouse complex buildings of about 5,000 square feet each.

Thybar, of North Canton, Ohio, has purchased three acres at the center to build a custom sheet metal-manufacturing facility. The company expects to break ground before the end of the month. Span Construction will erect the building.

Commonwealth Real Estate Companies, Inc. has acquired more land at the center, bringing its total to 96 acres.

It is also in contract for 80 additional acres. The company is remaining flexible on what to do with the seven separate parcels.

When it is completed, the 104,000-acre Tahoe Reno Industrial Center will be the largest industrial center in the world.
