Ghosts, witches, hay rides and other Halloween and harvest festival events are happening all over Lyon and Storey counties this year.

Dayton

WHAT: Ghostly Pioneers of Old Town Dayton

WHEN: 6-9 p.m. today

DESCRIPTION: The Historical Society of Dayton Valley is joining forces with Community Roots for a spirited hay ride at 6 p.m. Friday beginning at the Dayton Museum on Shady Lane and Logan Road, Old Town.

Laura Tennant will tell stories of Dayton on the ride, which will go to the Dayton cemetery. There, ghosts from the historic town's past will rise up and talk about Dayton in the 1850s and beyond.

Refreshments will be served at the museum and tours will be conducted. Glow Sticks and memorabilia will be sold.

WHAT: Fall Festival

DESCRIPTION: This adults-only party is a fundraiser for the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. The event includes a buffet dinner, costume competition, silent auction, prizes and live entertainment by The Act.

WHAT: Fernley's First annual Fall Festival

DESCRIPTION: The first annual Fall Festival features old-fashioned harvest season activities like scarecrow making, an autumn market and fair, children's entertainment and games, hay rides, pumpkin weigh-in, food booths, art show and live entertainment with Irish group Molly's Revenge, dancers from the Blanchette School of Irish Dance and Violinist Rhiannon Britschgi.

DESCRIPTION: As an alternative to the typical round of trick-or-treating and to honor God for creating the world, there will be a maze-like tour on the seven days of the Creation in the church sanctuary.

The free event will include a video presentation by the Institute for Creation Research showing continuously in the fellowship hall.

Virginia City

WHAT: Virginia City's Witching Hour

WHEN: 4-9 p.m. Tuesday

WHERE: C Street, Fourth Ward School, Piper's Opera House, St. Mary's Art Center and the Silver Terrace Cemeteries.

DESCRIPTION: Virginia City's Witching Hour begins with the second annual Goblin Parade, with cash prizes for the best costumes, on C Street at 4:30 p.m.; registration and lineup at 4 p.m. at the Virginia City Jerky Co., 240 S. C St.

Following the parade is safe trick-or-treating at C Street merchants.

At 6 p.m., visitors can tour the Haunted Halls of the Fourth Ward School, visit the Ghosts of Piper's Opera House, see the Unwelcome at the Silver City Cemeteries and the Slice and Dice at St. Mary's Art Center.

Free trolley rides are available to each venue. A "magic pin" will get you into all four events for $15 or $50 for a family. Individual events are $5 each. Tickets are available at the Fourth Ward School.
