Junior Midgets defeat Truckee

The Carson Senator Junior Midget youth football team got back on the winning track after suffering its first loss in two and a half years.

The Senators traveled to Truckee to earn the win with a 27-0 victory. On the second play from scrimmage, Dylan Sawyers took the ball around the left side and galloped 59 yards for Carson's first score. Sawyers would get the call again for the extra point scoring from three yards out.

Carson's offense wouldn't stop there. After the Senators defense force Truckee to punt, it took only four plays before quarterback Chance Quilling rolled left on a and rumbled 19 yards, picking up a key block from wide receiver Alex Crathers.

Carson would finish the scoring in the first quarter with Quilling hooking up with Gabriel Pongasi on a 13 yard touchdown pass.

"I was very happy with the way the kids bounced back after last week's loss," head coach Leonard Lee stated. "The way Keegan Aiazzi, Levi Carter, Bryce Collings, Crathers, Nick Garcia, Rafe King, Jacob Myers and Joe Zinda blocked today, we should be able to beat anybody down the road."

Carson's offense would come out in the second half and see Pacheco return the kick-off 38 yards to the 40 yard line. Three plays later Colby Blueberg would score on a dive up the middle. Joe Zinda would get the call for the extra point and make the score 27-0. Carson's running attack of Sawyers, Blueberg, Pacheco, Zinda, Patrick Craugh, Logan Peternell and Myers was solid.

Carson's defense comprised of Blueberg, Craugh, Devon Harrill, Patrick Hesse, King, Myers, Carter Nuckles, Pacheco, Peternell, Pongasi, Sawyers, Jimmy TenEyck, Zack White and Zinda kept Truckee at bay all game long. Pongasi had an interception, Myers recovereda fumble, Craugh had five tackles for loss and TenEyck had three tackles for loss.

"Our defense stepped it up again," defensive coordinator Steve Sawyers said. "This was our 19th shutout in past two and a half years and I am looking for four more.

Carson hosted Douglas on Friday at Governor's Field in a game for first in the division.
