CHS JV runners shine in meet

The Carson High junior varsity boys and girls cross country teams capped successful seasons at the Northern Nevada Championships hosted by Spanish Springs.

Carson's boys won the title while Carson's girls took second. Carson's boys had 52 points to finish ahead of Hug (66) and Manogue (69).

Reno High finished with 50 points, but had an ineligible runner disqualified. "We were just happy to be that close," Carson coach Pete Sinnott said about how competitive his team was with Reno.

Wade Smith finished second for Carson, losing the title by just four seconds. He ran the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 14 seconds while the winning time was 19-10.

Also for Carson, Tyler Davies was ninthin 20:04, Mark Neddenriep was 14th in 20:15, Andrew Richards was 233rd in 21:21, Jared Mondraggon was 24th in 21:24, Scott Wandel was 31st in 22:07, Taylor Phillips was 32nd in 22:08 nad Rile Borg was 43rd in 23:01.

Galena won the girls race with 44 points. Carson was second with 72 and Reno was third with 89.

For Carson's girls, Haley Ward was fourth in 24:20, Hannah Riedl was fifth in 24:24, Libby Reault was seventh in 24:59, Kelli Brothers was 20th in 26:30 and Kirsti Walker was 46th.

Next up for Carson's varsity teams is the Northern 4A Championships at Rancho San Rafael Park. Carson's boys and girls teams may very well be the third best teams in the state.

The problem is only two teams will qualify for the NIAA State Championships. Galena and Reno will be favored to advance for the boys and Reno and South Tahoe will be favored to advance for the girls. Among the other top teams should be the South Tahoe and Douglas boys and the Galena and Douglas girls.
