Tiny Mites Blue stays unbeaten

The Carson Senators Tiny Mites Blue youth football team improved its record to 7-0 on Friday night by beating the Sparks Wolf Pack in its most exciting game of the year, winning 30-18.

At Governor's Field, the Wolf Pack came out strong and scored the first touchdown on a reverse. The Senators' Luke Myers, filling in at tailback for the absent Brandon Gagnon, answered with a touchdown of his own on a sweep left to tie the score 6-6.

After consecutive defensive stands, the Wolf Pack were able to score on a sweep left and go up 12-6. Senators quarterback Derek Schafer scored on a keeper and tied the game 12-12 at halftime.

The Wolf Pack defense came out strong in the second half and was able to stall the Senators offense on their first two posessions. The Senators defense, which saw the emergence of Colton Schafer, held the Wolf Pack on back to back posessions as well.

Conner Larkin, Nick Tibma, Christopher Lyons and Phillip Lopez found their way into the backfield and made countless stops. Dawson Lamb, Justin Lopez and Blake Snyder plugged up the middle and gave up nothing inside.

The Wolf Pack, however, were able to get another score on a reverse and went up 18-12.

The Senators offense got a boost from Larkin, who was filling in at fullback for the injured Jarod Butler, and made many nice runs up the middle. Hunter Wheeler, who scored his first touchdown of the year, tied the game at 18-18.

Schafer, behind the blocking of his linemen Walker Bates, Zachary Roark, Gavin Bakkedahl, Carl Cavner, Tristan Woslum and Conner Arnold, was able to score on a sweep right to put the Senators up 24-18.

Cody Radtke also filled in at tailback for the Senators and made a few nice runs. Tristan Martel saw some offensive action and had a couple of nice pickups on reverses where he set up Schafer for the game's final score.

The Tiny Mites Blue face the Douglas Tigers Black squad this Friday at a place and time to be determined.
