Sylvia Jukich Gregory passed away peacefully at her home in Carson City on Oct. 20, 2006, with her family by her side.

She was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Ingot, Calif., to George and Mildred Jukich. However, she always considered herself a Nevada native as her parents moved to Virginia City when she was just an infant. She grew up in Old Ruth (Tonopah Canyon) in White Pine County and later lived in McGill. She graduated from White Pine High School in 1943. After graduation she attended Beauty College in Salt Lake City and had her own Beauty Shop in McGill.

Sylvia and her husband Galen Gregory were married in Ely in 1958. Her husband worked on a Highway Department Survey Crew and they moved all over the state working on construction projects until 1963 when they moved to Carson City.

Sylvia worked for many years for the State Employment Security Department in the Research and Statistics Division where she retired in 1981.

After retirement, Sylvia and Galen traveled extensively in their RV all over the United States, Canada, and Alaska. She especially loved the Oregon Coast, beach combing for driftwood and making driftwood arrangements.

She was a wonderful, compassionate, and caring wife and mother, loved by all who knew her. She will be missed but never forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Patsy Linnell, and brother Marco (Buddy) Jukich.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Galen, daughter Cheryl, who cared for her mom during her illness, and will always cherish her, and son-in-law Scott Mayne of Carson City, brother George Jukich of Twin Falls, Idaho, several nephews, cousins, and three caring nieces who she loved like her own daughters, Trudy Erquiaga, Tami Linnell and Teena Dobrescu.

A memorial Service will be held at Walton Funeral Home in Carson City at 11 a.m. Thursday followed by a celebration of life at the Gregory residence, 755 Marsh Road. A gravesite burial service will be held at the Ely Cemetery at noon Saturday with a gathering at the Bud Jukich house immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, 18653 Wedge Parkway, Reno, NV 89511 in memory of Sylvia Gregory.
