BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): We had a lot of people up here on Saturday, who did not want to stay in Carson City for the big Nevada Day parade. The leaves are now almost all gone.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Doug Busey of Douglas County reported the resort might be open on weekends in November. Call ahead at (209) 258-8888.

CARSON RIVERS AND NEARBY WATERS, CALIF: Dave Kirby:

East Carson River: This is his top choice for fishing moving water. The water is low and clear but in great condition.

West Carson River: Low and clear. Not very many fishermen.

CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: The Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260): Fishing has been great! Tim Alpers brought us 175 pounds (2-5 pounds each) of rainbows. Power Bait is working best in green, yellow or orange. Salmon eggs continue to work best on the Creek. A 4-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on nightcrawlers from the south shore, a 3-pound, 11-ounce rainbow on a Rapala lure from the south shore and a 3-pound, 10-ounce rainbow on an olive Woolly Bugger fly from the south shore.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Fishing from shore is vvery difficult due to the low water and all of the weed growth.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): A 3-pound rainbow at the dam with worms. Bank fishing continues to be good at Crystal Point and Turkey Point. Float nightcrawlers or use bright colored Power Bait. Trollers are doing well at Crystal Point, trolling nightcrawlers and flashers. Early morning fishing seem to be the most productive.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that this location is his top choice for where to fish, at the present time for lake fishing.

JUNE LAKE LOOP, CALIF: Steven Osterman reported: Silver and Gull Lakes have both been productive. Try Matukas, black or purple Woolly Buggers and Hale-Bopp Leeches.

The flow in Rush Creek is 261 CFS. Try black ants, Humpies and Royal Coachmen.

MAMMOTH LAKES, CALIF: Steven Osterman: Fly rodders casting purple Woolly Buggers, G's Catch 'em All and cinnamon Leechs have been scoring well in all the lakes. Also try a Stevie's Wonder under an indicator or hung in the film.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Valerie at Crosby's Lodge at (775) 476-0400 reported: We had an awesome week, last week. The top fish were: An 11-pound, 4-ounce (30 inches) cutthroat caught by Ashley Sharp, age 11, of California. The fish was caught while trolling at Anderson Bay.

A 9-pound, 11-ounce (28 inches) cutthroat caught by Mike Picatty of California while trolling at Pelican Point.

In addition, three 7-pounders, a 6-pounder and several 5-pounders were reported.

The fish are being caught mostly from boats. One 5-pounder by a fly fisherman.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Andy at the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks at 358-6113: No report. He is out of town, fishing in a Bass Tournament.

RED LAKE, CALIF: Doug Busey reported that the brook trout fishing is said to very good for nightcrawlers floated just off the bottom.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Dave Jacobs/Hank Mautz (Professional Guide Service) (800-355-3113) or (530-365-8140):

Trout and Steelhead: Trout and Steelhead fishing near Balls Ferry downstream through Los Molinos has been excellent with 20-40 hook-ups being common. Boat pressure really picked up this past week slowing the bite somewhat. Look for best bite early in the mornings side drifting small Glo Bugs in pink or flame color combos. Some light egg patterns have been doing well.

Trout have been averaging 1-3 pounds with the occasional big Steelhead up to 8 pounds.

King Salmon: Salmon fishing for fall run kings has slowed this past week in the upper river around the Barge Hole area with fewer and darker fish being caught. This is the time of year where anglers can target the newer and fresher late fall run kings. These are traditionally much larger fish tipping the scales some days over 50 pounds! Salmon have been averaging 18-24 pounds with some older fall fish still being caught.

Best bets have been sardine wrapped K-15 or K-16 Kwikfish lures in silver or gold color combos. Pink and pearl color combos are also a good bet this time of year. Roe tipped with a flame colored Quickie puffball has produced a few fish in the barge hole area. Back- bouncing fresh sardine wrapped Kwikfish has been best bet.

Sean Price from Discovery Park caught a 44-pound king on 10-24-06. 12-year-old Colin Boneback from Chico caught a 37-pound late fall king on 10-27-06.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): Fishing has been good. We have been trolling at 180 feet with Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF: Steven Osterman reported: East Walker River: The flow in the river is currently 101 CFS. Fishing is good. Soft hackle Hares Ears, driftless Caddis, peeking Caddis and gray WD-40'S. Lots of pressure on the weekends.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: The weather is windy and cold. It is 30 degrees and downright nasty (Monday morning).

The fishing is super, super, super. Nothing real big for Wildhorse, but lots of 21-22-23 inch trout being caught.

Mostly, by deer hunters fishing from shore in the afternoons.
