A funeral for William Newell Hopkins, 77, an 18-year Utah resident, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Hyde Park Stake Center, 535 East 200 South in Hyde Park, Utah. A viewing will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan, Utah, and prior to the services.

Mr. Hopkins died Oct. 27, 2006, from complications of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He was born Oct. 6, 1929, in Los Angeles, to William Merle Hopkins and Mary Lucille Johnson.

He married Mary Ann Rauner on May 14, 1952, in Los Angeles. They were sealed three years later on Oct. 25, 1955, at St. George Temple in Utah.

He ran an insurance and brokerage business, which he retired from 18 years ago.

Before moving to Utah, Mr. Hopkins lived in Nevada and California.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a tech sergeant June 1, 1957.

He was a 52-year member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He fulfilled two missions to the island of Malta and served the church in numerous capacities.

He enjoyed flying and had obtained his private pilot's license after his discharge from the military.

Among his survivors are his wife of 54 years; daughter Cheryl Cavalier; daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Curtis Fisher, Susan and Daniel and Connie and Robert Papa ; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Cindy Hopkins; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two unborn great-great grandchildren.

Burial will take place at the Hyde Park Cemetery in Utah.

Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, Utah, is in charge of arrangements.
