A 50-year-old Reno man was treated and released after being extracted from a hilltop at Lahontan State Recreation Area after a nearly four-hour search Sunday afternoon.

Just before noon, Timothy Daniel Myrick was mountain biking with two other people on the south end of the lake near Hercules, when the party became separated. Unable to locate Myrick, his companions retraced their steps both on bikes and in a car for three hours with no contact.

The companions notified park rangers, who initiated a ground search with the help of the Lyon County Search and Rescue team aided by a Nevada National Guard helicopter.

Just after 6:30 p.m., campers on Virginia Beach noticed a man on a hillside in the Dead Camel Mountains, adjacent to the park, calling for help. A state parks boat and Care Flight Helicopter were dispatched and retrieved Myrick, who was released to his friends, according to Lyon County Emergency Manager Jeff Page.
