The Nevada Division on Environmental Protection has begun accepting applications for $150,000 in grants to be awarded to municipalities, educational institutions and nonprofit organizations for projects that enhance solid waste management systems and recycling projects.

Photographers can submit work for show


Area photographers are asked to take advantage of the fall colors in northern Nevada by submitting their work to Bartley Ranch Regional Park's annual "Sierra Autumn" exhibit.


There is no entry fee and the deadline is Sept. 29.


Participants may submit no more than two framed and ready-to-hang photographs that express views of autumn in the Sierra.

Elk's to hold annual flea market


The Minden/Douglas County Elks will hold their annual flea market at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday at the Elk's Lodge, 1276 Pit Road.

Carson City


BAC offers cowboy poetry and bluegrass


Richard Elloyan, local cowboy poet, and the F-150s, a local bluegrass band, will be performing together at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Brewery Arts Center.


Tickets are $16 preferred seating and $13 balcony seating with a $3 discount for BAC members. Call 883-1976 for information.




Sunday bowling league looking for team members


A Sunday evening bowling league at Carson Lanes is looking for more bowlers to join.


The league is mixed with four people to team and at least one person must be of either gender.


The league bowls at 6:30 p.m. Sundays from September through April. Bowlers aged 22 - 77 who have averages from 99 to 198 may apply.

AARP Drivers Safety Program planned


There will be an AARP Driver Safety Program from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Carson City Senior Center.


Participants will receive information on compensating for the effects of aging on driving, as well as a comprehensive review of general and State of Nevada rules of the road.


Students aged 55 and over with good driving records may become eligible for auto insurance discounts upon completion of the class. Cost is $10. To register call 786-3509.
