Vernon K. Cook, 80, a 4-month Carson City resident, died Sept. 2, 2006, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Cook was born July 11, 1926, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., to Chester Kling Cook and Lois M. Everly.

He married Adela Martinez Jan. 15, 1949, in Reno.

Before moving to Carson City, Mr. Cook lived in Reno for four years, Las Vegas for three years, Phoenix for three years and in Banning, Calif., for five years.

He was a factory manager in the garment industry.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He enjoyed games and jokes.

He was preceded in death by his wife and by sister Phyllis.

Among his survivors are his daughters and sons-in-law Sylvia and Paul Meyer of Dayton and Selina and Ken Kostelnik of South Lake Tahoe; two grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

Cremation took place at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
