A Carson City company known for large residential developments is focusing its attention on two-bedroom apartments on the east side of Carson City for a growing worker class.
The 55 units in Gordon Park Apartments will rent for between $675-$800, said Tom Garretson, a partner in Stanton Park Development and a contractor.
"We're building in the east end of Carson City for affordable renters because a lot of the work force is moving east," he said Wednesday.
Stanton Park Development, operated by Garretson, Dwight Millard and Ed Furgerson, has constructed 360 home units off Edmonds Drive, 600 homes in the Mountain Park subdivision and about 100 homes in the Empire Ranch custom subdivision. It has been building in Carson City for about 22 years.
The 900-square-foot apartments will be located at North Edmonds Drive half a block south of Gordon Street.
Garretson said they started the permitting process in December and have begun moving dirt for the pad. The building permits are pending. The $5 million project is expected to start renting in February and be open for renters three months later.
"It's going to be a nice little development, four separate buildings that are two- and three-stories high."
