A funeral service for Ben Mattice, 86, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Highway 208 in Yerington.
Mr. Mattice died Sept. 5, 2006, at Regent Care Center in Reno. He was born June 2, 1920, in Rifle, Colo., to Lewis Mattice and Mary Lasca Boies.
His family moved to Clover Valley in 1925, and then to Ely in 1928.
He married Myrtle Fawcett on Dec. 22, 1939, in Ely.
Mr. Mattice worked for Wells Cargo in Las Vegas and Reno just after World War II. He was in charge of the ore hauling in Gray Bull, Wyo.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, fighting at the Battle of the Bulge and receiving several commendations.
He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, camping and being with his family.
He was preceded in death by son Reginald Mattice; his first wife; brother David Mattice; and sister Rose Mary.
Among his survivors are his second wife, Louise Mattice; daughters Gloria Hill and Claudia Trovina, both of Reno; son Mitchell Mattice of Carson City; stepdaughter Jody Ann McDonald of Oregon; brothers Orin and Walt Mattice; sister Eda Johnson and numerous extended relatives.
Burial will take place at the Valley View Cemetery.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington is in charge of arrangements.
