First National Bank of Nevada has announced a commitment of matching funds for Individual Development Accounts, a partnership in support of asset building programs for low- and moderate-income families, the first of its kind in the state of Nevada.


Along with its sister bank, First National Bank of Arizona, the bank will provide $250,000 in grants for the accounts over the next five years in both states.




Kahoun named mortgage branch manager


Wells Fargo has named Sally Kahoun as branch manager for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in Northern Nevada. In her role, she will oversee more than 20 home mortgage consultants in the Reno, Sparks, Fernley, Winnemucca and Elko communities.


She brings more of 25 years of mortgage loan experience to her new role




Unlicensed contractor arrested in Lyon County


Daniel Wayne Jackson, wanted on a felony warrant for diversion of funds and a misdemeanor charge of contracting without a licensed, was recently arrested by the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.


The Northern Nevada Special Investigations Unit of the Nevada State Contractors Board, which had been investigating Jackson since December of 2005, assisted in his apprehension. He is being held in the Yerington jail on a $10,722 bail.




Local insurance agent recognized by J.D. Power and Associates


Kathy McClintock, an American Family Insurance agent in Carson City, has been recognized for customer satisfaction excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Insurance Agency Program. McClintock has been an agent for American Family since October of 2001.


The service excellence distinction was determined through a two-part evaluation process. The first park consists of a customer satisfaction survey.


In order to proceed to the second step, agents must meet or exceed the standards measured on a national benchmark.


Agents who meet or surpass the overall national average must then pass an on-site evaluation based on the five best practice areas.




NCOT to host tour for travel journalists from Japan


The Nevada Commission on Tourism will host a group of Japanese travel journalists on a tour from Las Vegas to Ely and Great Basin National Park Sept. 10-15. The six-day tour is designed to highlight Nevada's resorts, attractions and outdoor adventure for the Japanese visitor market.


The journalists represent more than 158,000 subscribers.
