The Western Nevada Community College baseball team split a doubleheader in a pair of scrimmages on Saturday at Feather River, losing the opener 4-0 and winning the nightcap 6-3.
Stephen Sauer was the winning pitcher in the nightcap. "Sauer was outstanding on the mound in game two," WNCC coach D.J. Whittemore said.
Jeremy Joustra was also able to escape a bases loaded jam with one out in the sixth inning and WNCC leading 6-3. Joustra got a strikeout and groundout to escape the jam.
Kyle Bondurant had two hits, including a two-run single that broke open the game, Andrew Reid had two hits and Taylor Meiras added an RBI double.
In the opener, Jose Barajas needed only 17 pitches to throw two scoreless innings.
"Barajas pitched extremely well," Whittemore said. Whittemore also said Josh Creveling pitched well in relief.
WNCC was held to four hits and Bondurant had a double and Cliff Shepard, Ryan Simpson and Carson's Logan Parsley all added a hit.
Whittemore also praised Parsley's play at second base. "Parsley played good defense all day at second base," Whittemore said.
The Wildcats return to action with a three-game series this weekend against the Reno Astros at Moana Stadium. The two teams will play at 7 p.m. Friday and a doubleheader, beginning at noon this Saturday.
