In Descent and Mexican Phil take top honors at Jester's Joust

About 800 people attended the inaugural Jester's Joust: Battle of the Bands competition held last weekend. The battle was a fundraiser for the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and featured eight bands and six solo artists.

The event raised approximately $3,500 for the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada.

First place in the band competition was awarded to In Descent; second place went to Alone in the Cockpit; and third place was awarded to Mary with a K.

First place in the solo performer competition went to Mexican Phil; Ashley Hutchinson finished second and Paige Dossey finished third.

First place in both competitions received $500, $250 for second place and $100 for third place.

The Nevada State Library and Archives, announced that its Web site was named by Family Tree Magazine as one of the 101 best Web sites for genealogical research. Family Tree Magazine annually publishes a list of its top picks for Web sites most successful in aiding their readers on the quest for genealogical information.

"As the Internet has become a widely used tool for genealogy research, the State Archives strives to make our Web site a valuable resource for genealogical investigation," said Guy Rocha, Nevada State Archivist. "It has always been our mission to preserve the state's historical records and make their informational contents available to our constituency, and the Internet is another way for us to achieve that goal."

The Nevada State Library and Archives Web site can be accessed at www.NevadaCulture.org. Users are directed to genealogical resources throughout the state and the Web site provides direction on how to obtain birth, death, marriage and divorce records; naturalization records; obituaries; territorial and other state and county records; high school year books; prison inmate case files and more.
